Abstracts are invited for the RANZCP 2018 Congress.

With a theme of Becoming well together: Partnerships in mental health, Ngā hononga ō te hauora hinengaro, the 2018 Congress will explore the many interconnecting partnerships essential to the practice of modern psychiatry.

If you wish to submit an abstract for consideration by the Scientific Program Committee, you must also intend to register for the Congress. Online submission is the only method of receipt of abstracts.

PRESENTATION TYPES

Pre-Congress workshop: A number of optional pre-Congress workshops will be held on Sunday 13 May 2018 and delegates will be able to register for these workshops as part of the registration process. Workshops may be submitted as either ‘half day’ (3 – 4 hours) or ‘full day’ (6 hours).

Please note submissions have now closed for the pre-Congress workshops. Authors will be notified of the outcome of their submission on Monday 16 October 2017.

Rapid fire presentation: This presentation is to be conducted by one presenting author, who will have 6 minutes to provide a presentation as part of a rapid fire oral presentation session. The session will consist of a series of short and sharp presentations with a maximum of 20 slides per speaker.

Oral presentation: An oral presentation will include a 15 – 20 minute oral presentation. The Scientific Program Committee reserves the right to allocate your submission to another presentation type if applicable.

Combined symposium presentation: Combined submission of a minimum of 3 and maximum of 6 individual presentations submitted by one author on behalf of the group and under the one common theme. The standard time allocated per symposium is 90 minutes.

Panel presentation: Panels are debate sessions of a group of leaders in a field discussing a broad issue of general interest from various perspectives. The focus of panel sessions is the discussion and interaction between the panellists. Submissions are sought for fully formed debates – meaning all presenters (pro/contra) required for your panel are included. The standard time allocated per panel presentation is 90 minutes.

Psychiatry Interest Forum Student member presentation: Members of the RANZCP’s Psychiatry Interest Forum are welcome to submit an abstract for consideration at the Congress. Each abstract will be reviewed, and the winner will be offered the opportunity to deliver an oral presentation (15 – 20 minutes) at the Congress.

Poster presentation: Posters will be on display for the entire duration of Congress. An electronic format for displaying posters may be used.

The Organising Committee is seeking presentations that are clinically relevant to psychiatrists and other mental health professionals.

Presentations can be related to any sub-specialty or other practice area in psychiatry, and those that show the rich diversity of partnerships in clinical practice, research and mental health are strongly encouraged.

The following themes are broad and inclusive and may assist with guidance for your submission:

CALL FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSIONS

Abstract submission is a two-step process.

Step 1: Creating an account and logging into the abstract submission portal

Click on the button below to access the abstract submission portal. To access the portal, we ask you to please set up an account to assist in the management and submission of your abstract/s for Congress.

Please select the Create New Account button and complete your preferred email address and password for your account log in details.

Once logged into the submission portal please click on the Your Contact Information tab at the top of menu bar and complete your contact details.

Once you have created an account within the abstract submission portal you can upload abstracts, edit abstracts that are still in draft, and review terms and conditions at any time, by logging in. 

Step 2: Submitting your abstract

Abstracts must be submitted by the presenting author who should complete all fields. Click on the Abstract Submission tab and review the instructions. 

Use the template to present your abstract in the required format. Abstracts not submitted using this template will be returned for correction.

Templates can be found above and in the abstract submission portal, please save the template to your desktop and complete it.  

You will be required to provide the following details prior to uploading the abstract file:  

• The abstract title  
• Preferred presentation type
• Theme  
• Author names and affiliations  
• Presenting author biography  
• Your completed abstract template  

Please complete each step within the portal and then select the Submit button to successfully submit your abstract. Please note this button will show only when all fields have been completed. You can also choose to Save as Draft at any time. You can view all your drafts and successfully submitted abstracts in the Your Submissions tab.  

Should you wish to delete or edit an abstract that has been successfully submitted you will need to contact Fiona Geoghegan, Program Coordinator via email at fiona@wsm.com.au or phone on +61 3 9907 8631.

Once your abstract is submitted correctly, you will receive a confirmation email. If you do not receive this email, your abstract has not been submitted. The abstract will be found under the Your Submissions tab and you will need to complete the missing information and submit it.

Successful pre-Congress workshop presenters will be notified of their acceptance and allocation to program on Monday 16 October 2017.

CONGRESS SESSION NOTIFICATION AND ACCEPTANCE

Abstract review notification and allocation to the program will be communicated to the corresponding authors on Friday 15 December 2017.

Please note the details provided as the author contact should be for the nominated main contact for your abstract. All correspondence relating to the submission will be directed to this person and they should in turn distribute to all co-presenters.

Acceptance of this offer must be notified to Fiona Geoghegan, Program Coordinator no later than Friday 19 January 2018.

ABSTRACT PRESENTER REGISTRATION

The invitation to submit an abstract does not constitute an offer to pay travel, accommodation or registration costs associated with the Congress. Similarly, no presenter fee is paid to successful participants. Click here to register for the Congress.

All presenters must register for the Congress before Friday 2 March 2018 in order for the presentation to be included in the Congress Program.
